Oy! Volunteering
I’m so excited, I could just bust. Or maybe that’s just because I ate too much for breakfast and my pants are tight. But I don’t think so. I think it’s because we just scheduled our First Camping Trip of 2010. Squeeeeee! Destination: Charleston, SC. We’re going to be doing some volunteer work. Bagging oysters. Or maybe counting them. I’m a little unclear on the details. But nevertheless, we’ll be doing our part to help the environment. … Read entire article »

January Campfire
So if you’re a faithful reader, you know that even though I grew up in the Northeast and could practically play out in the snow in bare feet, I’ve now lived in the South too long. With the freakish cold weather we’ve been having down here, I’m miserable. COLD. Even the ends of my hair feel the cold. I don’t know how I did it all those years. But happy, happy days arrived last week: Warmth! … Read entire article »

TMI
I’d say I’m middle-road when it comes to technology. Sure, I love me some wifi, and I’d probably save my laptop’s life in a fire. And I adore my digital camera and camcorder. But take my phone (actually, don’t take it…but feel free to upgrade me). I’m on a data plan, but my phone is a dinosaur by today’s tech standards. While it’s not exactly one of these beauties: …it’s still fairly outdated by today’s iPhone … Read entire article »

Camping improv
Our camping trip a couple weeks ago is still on my mind. Mostly because I’m still feeling guilty/amazed that I enjoyed the tent camping so much. Recap: I used to tent camp a lot in my bachelorette years, and then during our early marriage years. Did a bit when the kids were younger. Then my parents started letting us borrow their camper, and the thought of sleeping on the ground, crawling in and out of a tent, and washing dishes at a spigot didn’t seem as appealing. So we went several years camping — but not in a tent. Enter our Atlanta trip last month. Tent camping. As I said at the time, shockingly fun. We’re already planning the next tent camping expedition. Two things I’ve been thinking about: Gadgets. I don’t … Read entire article »

Variations on a tenting theme
So, as you know, we went tent camping down in Georgia recently. I mentioned earlier my parents have a camper they let us use occasionally, and I hadn’t tent camped in a while. (Turned out great, BTW.) But what happens if you want to go camping, don’t have a camper, and you think that tents are so 2008? Well, you’re in luck. I just poked around and found you a couple great alternatives to the … Read entire article »

Return to Chez Polka Dot
So we’re back. We did a tour of Atlanta, about which we’ll share in upcoming posts. Glad to see last week’s posts appeared as they were scheduled to do — how weird to see technology functioning properly! Too bad the house couldn’t clean itself, too, while I was gone. We tent-camped the whole visit. I used to tent-camp, as often as I could. But then my parents got a cool camper that they let us borrow, and suddenly sleeping on the ground, with no private potty, washing dishes with a spigot…kinda lost its appeal. So I have to admit, I was being a little snobbish about the whole aspect of spending several nights in a tent. In June. In Atlanta. But my parents have their camper up in NY for the … Read entire article »
