Lately, I’ve had this thing for photography. Well, more than lately. More like the past 20 years or so. But with kids, things have gotten really fun in the photo department. Sure, you start snapping the pix as soon as you find out you’re pregnant, then on through the newborn shots, the milestone moments, getting on the school bus, and so on.
Now what about the pix your kid takes? Those are the real gems, and that’s when the fun really starts. So here’s our project this week at PDS: we’re going to take pictures of our breakfast every day for a week. Is that weird? Possibly. But that’s what we’re doing, and I’m going to share it with you — aren’t you the lucky ones?
Actually, this is going to be more of a challenge than it sounds, since I’m prone to the same breaky every single morning. Maybe this will challenge me to shake things up. We’ll see.
But my point — and I do have one — give your kiddos the camera for a change. Give them “assignments.” Like photos of their breakfast for a week. Or ask them to photograph a day in the life of your dog/cat/fish/plant. (Hmm.) See if they can look at things from a new way — a tree from close to the trunk, looking up, or a cloeseup of the tip of your dog’s tongue, for example.
And then share your pix — I wanna see ‘em!

It is good for writers to know how to take pictures well, as it can save us a bit of money if we use our own.
You’re right about that. Plus, it’s fun!
That is such an excellent point about saving money taking our own pictures to use!
So, Kate, how many pictures do you take — do your kids think you are the paparazzi?
Pictures, videos…you know I’m all over that! Have to say, though, as tweens my kids aren’t too thrilled with the shutterbug in me…
