Last night I had a commercial right in the middle of my dream. (Later, I asked Sir Buffalo Sushi, “How weird is that? I mean, who has a commercial in the middle of their dream?” He said, “You.”) I don’t even remember what the commercial was for, either. I just remember merrily dreaming my dream for the first part: Friends of ours were visiting and the little girl was fascinated with our garden, particularly with the little tree that grew coins. It wasn’t harvesting season, but she couldn’t resist the sparkle and plucked one off. My friend said, “Oh, no, honey. Don’t pick the coins.” I shrugged and said, “It’s just pennies; it’s okay.”
Ignoring the fact that I was all blase that my TREE grew MONEY, what was odd was right after that–BAM! Commercial break. When I got back to my dream, we’d walked past the garden and were looking through some books to find a project to do together. I was really bummed that I didn’t own a copy of this particular book, because it looked like an incredible resource. (Why I couldn’t just harvest my pennies and buy a copy, I have no idea.)
But there you have the gist of it. Commercial break in my dream. Anyone know any dream experts?
The whole money tree reminded me of a craft I’ve been wanting to do. For SBS’s birthday one year, my mother-in-law sent him fifty dollars in singles. Our thinking was that fifty singles looks like a bucketload more money than just a single bill. I stuffed all the bills in a bag and fluffed them up so it looked like snowfall when he opened it. (Come on. You know you’ve always wanted to do the roll-in-money thing.)
In hindsight, I kind of wish I’d been more creative and done a money tree craft. This would be perfect for any time you’re gifting a kid with cash:
MONEY TREE
Use a small potted plant (artificial would be better). Take all the bills and fold them accordion-style, length-wise. You’ll end up with lots of long fans, essentially. Gather the middle of each bill with a ribbon — the bill will form a bow. Attach the bill to the plant with a twist tie. Easy — and it looks so darn cool!
…now about that dream…
