So you and the kids are ready to go geocaching…ready to sniff around and find a hidden treasure. You pile into the family truckster, head to a local park, tumble out of the car…and then you realize: You forgot to upload some geocaches into your GPS. Or maybe you’re in a strange land, have some time on your hands, so you decide to go geocaching…except that, again, you don’t have any caches loaded into your GPS. Or maybe you’ve got all your waypoints loaded into your GPS…but the kids are battling over who gets to carry your pricey unit and you’re reluctant to get pb&j sticky fingers all over it.
Enter the Geomate Jr.
This handy dandy little unit is pre-loaded with caches, and it’s oh-so-simple to use. Just keep it in your glove box and you’re always ready for a treasure hunt. Hardy, handy, and sticky-finger-resistant — yay!
We test-drove the Geomate Jr. by standing in our driveway and turning it on. According to Jr., there was a cache about a half mile from our house. Our first assumption was that the thing didn’t work. Boo. But, just to be fair, we headed in the direction of the mysterious local cache. Here’s the surprise: We found it! There really and truly was a cache 1/2 mile from our house. Very cool.
Will it replace our go-to unit? Mayyyybe not. But will it give us some fun caching opps? Already has.
