Okay, so I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus from Polka Dot Suitcase. Miss me?
Happily, Big Fish is nicely healing from his four-level spinal fusion (ouch!) and we’re back in business. Looks like I’ve got some blog-catching-up to do.
And what better way to start than to revisit my beleaguered pie iron attempts from last month? Happily, I learned my lesson from that sad experience and the next couple times we tried it, we did so over a real flame, no lame charcoal wimpy “fire.” They’ve mostly been gobbled up too fast to take photos, but I did snag a couple of shots. Here’s an eclair, waiting for some dressing up:
And here it is, all dressed up and oozing happiness:
I couldn’t get a better photo, though, because at this point there was much wailing and teeth-gnashing as Sir and Mister were waiting impatiently to dig in. But how yummy does that look? It’s a crescent dough, filled with vanilla pudding and topped with chocolate frosting. Mmmmm! The other big success was a turtle — crescent dough, cut-up caramel squares, chocolate chips, and pecan pieces. I had to snatch part of that one from between Sir’s jaws in order to get a piece for myself.
Thank goodness for fall — time for backyard campouts and lots of cast-iron cooking!
