Snow! (What else can I say?)

So, by now if you were up in the Space Shuttle and looked back at the big blue marble, it would probably look more like an eye with severe cataracts. The Northeast is pretty much buried under so much snow I think the forecasters lost count. The historical storm that dumped loads and loads and buckets and buckets and…well, a whole lotta the white stuff.

Here in NC, forecasters like to say we “dodged the bullet.” This phrase, by the way, bugs Big Fish to no end. It’s probably because it’s so tired and overused, and Big Fish doesn’t tolerate fools gladly.

Anyhoo, we had our couple inches of snow a couple weeks ago, and then we dodged this current snow bullet. Our pals north of us did not. And you know what? That is completely fine with my kids. I know — if you know anything about Southern kids, you know that they pine for snowfall every winter, and rarely do we get enough to play in. But the kids gaze up at the skies, cross their fingers, say their prayers, and hope and hope that we’ll get some snow every year.

So we had a couple inches this year. Sir Buffalo and Mister Steel had a blast until the very last little patch of tiny snow disappeared from the yard. And then? They were done. I mean, done. With snow. When there was a whisper that we might get a little more last week, they threw up their hands. More snow? AGAIN? Come on. Enough is enough!

But to our northern neighbors, I can sympathize. I grew up in Buffalo and Syracuse. I know snow. I know that after the magic wears off, you’re kinda ready for it to just melt already. It’s like winter is never, ever going to end. Take lots of pictures, drink lots of cocoa, and hang in there. Spring is coming.

Isn’t it?
