Dogs have beauty marks, too

dog-with-beauty-mark2Here’s something I heard today that makes me want to roll my eyes until they pop out of my head: Someone sees a black mark (or two or three) on a dog’s tongue and pronounces, “That means they’re part Chow!” Because, naturally, dogs like Chows have blue-black tongues (Shar-Pei do, too, BTW, but you rarely hear that a dog is part Shar-Pei because of the tell-tale tongue).

Here’s the deal: NO. It does not mean they’re part Chow. Not even in the tip of their happily wagging tail. Those spots are just beauty marks for dogs. Not a sign of heritage. Not a sign that they must be prone to some Chow-like aggression. Just. A. Spot.

Wow. Do I feel better for getting that off my chest.
