Space case
Okay, so here’s a weird one. Last night I dreamed some people were coming to town to film a new Star Trek movie. And they wanted me to play the captain! Woowee! I said, “Sure, count me in.” Well, shortly thereafter, I happened to be walking around in some pipe-filled basement, as happens occasionally in dreams. There was a woman on the movie production crew who was there, on her cell phone. She didn’t see me, and started telling whomever she was on the phone with that I would stink as the captain, I had no experience, and that I’d ruin everything. (At that point, she kind of spotted me, but I did some evasive maneuvers and got away. Snort. Wouldn’t make a good captain, eh? Anyone who’s ever watched Star Trek knows evasive maneuvers are the first thing you need to do when you take the wheel of the Enterprise.)
Anyhoo, at the big banquet pre-filming, all the previous captains were arriving for the feast. There was Picard, Archer, and of course Kirk. I’m all hobnobbing with my fellow captains, when I spot that naysayer across the room, trying to spread rumors about how terrible a captain I’d be. And here’s where I surprised my dream-self: I marched right over and said, very calmly, “Okay. I won’t be captain.” And I really was okay with it.
I know! Pretty anti-climactic end to the dream, right? Okay, Freud, what d’ya say about that? Personally, I’m thinking that late-night Star Trek marathon in the hospital with Big Fish was a bad idea…
