Microwave Mayhem
Hello, Bloglings. Sir Buffalo Sushi here. So, Big Fish is still recovering from surgery, and he relies on a microwaveable heat pack to relieve the pain. But, the other day, the worst thing that could possibly happen to a person on the face of the Earth… happened. Our microwave broke. No more hot dogs, no more reheats, no more hot water for Quakers oat meal, and most importantly no more of Big Fish’s heat pack. So, we … Read entire article »

Whoops!
Uh…did anyone else notice it’s Thursday already? I think the week got away from me and I’ve neglected PDS. Ever feel like you’re kind of going along, putting out fires and taking care of this and attending that and trying to hold down the fort and carrying a roll-over “to do” list for days on end and then you happen to look up and you see this coming at you: Well, that’s pretty much the way … Read entire article »

Cow Puppets
Hello, Bloglings! Sir Buffalo Sushi here. Today I had nothing to post about. But, I was bored and I found a box of “Make your own puppets” downstairs. So I made some puppets. You’re suppose to make a cow, flamingo, and mouse, but I made two cows. The white one is complete, but the gray one has no ears because I ran out of material: All you need is a sock, glue, felt, and scissors. Till next time, Sir … Read entire article »

Try to read my pretty poker face…
Mister is playing a computer poker game right now (hey, it’s before school and he’s learning…uh…statistics?), and one of the characters says that. “Try to read my pretty poker face.” Only he says it in a really fast, staccato, accented voice. Anyhoo, it cracks me up and it’s my new catch phrase. So here’s something to do with your kids, friends, family, co-workers, or the mail dude: Put your first fingers together thusly: Then, using the thumb … Read entire article »

Space case
Okay, so here’s a weird one. Last night I dreamed some people were coming to town to film a new Star Trek movie. And they wanted me to play the captain! Woowee! I said, “Sure, count me in.” Well, shortly thereafter, I happened to be walking around in some pipe-filled basement, as happens occasionally in dreams. There was a woman on the movie production crew who was there, on her cell phone. She didn’t see me, and started telling whomever she was on the phone with that I would stink as the captain, I had no experience, and that I’d ruin everything. (At that point, she kind of spotted me, but I did some evasive maneuvers and got away. Snort. Wouldn’t make a good captain, eh? Anyone who’s ever watched … Read entire article »

Pain in the neck
Time has been a little blurred at Chez Polka Dot for the last week. Big Fish has had some hefty back problems for some time, but last week things kind of exploded and he was in amazing pain. Long story short — he ended up with major surgery on Friday to repair four discs. Ouch. When you’re in the hospital, you’re pretty much oblivious to the outside world. Is it raining? Hot? Cold? Did a headline … Read entire article »

Dusty’s Birth Day
Hello, bloglings! Sir Buffalo Sushi here. My dog, Dusty, turned 7 yesterday. This is really the first year that we celebrated it. Mom bought her “Frosty Paws” which is a ice cream for dogs. And my dog’s not the best eater to begin with, she never chews, and she finishes her daily bowl of dog food in approximately 10 seconds minimum. But, the Frosty Paws come in small little cups, so as soon as Dusty gets a hold of it, she tries to swallow the ice cream and the cup whole. Mom had to pry it out of her jaws so she wouldn’t choke. I also got Dusty a plush toy dog with a squeaker in side it, so if you bite down on it it squeaks. And I got her some … Read entire article »

Hairy Plotter
It happened again this morning. Big Fish called up, “Hey, J.K. Rowling’s going to be on the news in a couple minutes. Want to come watch for inspiration?” It’s not the first time someone’s implied that if I just wrote a best seller, I’d live happily ever after in financial bliss. Oh, is that all I have to do? What the heck have I been waiting for? I think I have some free time this weekend. … Read entire article »

Coffee talk
I first started drinking coffee in college. All nighters, you know. At first, I was into the milk-and-sugar route. Then, after a road trip with my sister across the country in a Yugo (remind me to tell you about the Goodwrench Sister adventures sometime), I took it black. (I didn’t like powdered creamers on the road. Or off the road, for that matter.) Then my uncle told me my teeth would get yellow if I kept drinking it black, so I switched back to milk (no sugar). During my pregnancy years, I had to give up coffee altogether, which was the only bad part of being pregnant. Yeah, I said the only bad part. Went back on full-strength, super-strength, multiple pots of coffee during the infant years, just for survival purposes. After … Read entire article »

AI (or Abbreviation Insanity)
So I’ve heard the reports about shrinking attention spans in our kids (and in adults). About how, because of all the information overload, humans have started to want just the facts. And fast. Otherwise our attention wanders, our eyes glaze, and we’re either a) thinking about something else already or b) just slipping into a coma. Guess this is what it feels like to be getting older, because this bugs me. I was trying to find a kid-friendly acronym to illustrate a point, and I came across a massive list of texting shorthand and Internet acronyms. Some of which, I’ll admit, I use myself, LOL. But there are others on this list…IWBAPTAKYBIFSTA? Uh, it took some concentration just now for me to type all that. (“I…will…buy…a…”) Seems like it would be faster … Read entire article »
