“Jucy Lucy” or “Juicy Lucy”, you decide
It’s Friday, and that means I, Sir Buffalo Sushi, am going to do another post.
So, the other day, Big Fish, Mr. Steel, and I were watching the Food Network. And this food show was yapping about food when it suddenly caught our attention. They were introducing the Juicy Lucy! GASP! Actually, you probably don’t know what it is. Well, it’s this inside-out hamburger. You make it by; #1. get 2 hamburger patties. #2. Lay one of the patties flat and pile 3 slices of cheddar cheese on top. #3. Put the second pattie on top of that, creating a sandwich. #4. With your fingers, seal the two patties together, so it’s a pocket of cheese in the middle, but its sides are sealed, so no cheese can get out. #5. Put on the grill for about 6-9 minutes. #6. Serve on a bun with what ever toppings you want.
Big Fish tried to make one, and it turned out REALLY GOOD!!!!! We found that shredded lettuce was a great topping (and it HAS to be shredded).
So, how’d it get started? Well it depends on who you ask, I’ll just tell you what the show said. It started out in Minnesota, that’s for sure. But, it’s word vs. word, between Matt’s Bar and The 5-8 Club. The two restaurants are right across the street from one another, so the rivalry’s hot. Matt’s Bar claims they invented the burger, yet, The 5-8 club says they invented it.
But, they’re unique, because Matt’s Bar had a spelling error, and spelled its burger the Jucy Lucy. The 5-8 Club spelled its burger the Juicy Lucy, spelled correctly. But Matt’s never changed their spelling mistake, saying “If it’s spelled correctly, you’re in the wrong place!”
So, you decide, who made the Juicy Lucy/Jucy Lucy first? Personally, I think Big Fish (though he didn’t make it first) makes it the best. Sir Buffalo Sushi, signing off.

I heart the Food Network. That sounds delish!
2 burgers? 3 slices of cheese? I think I am in heaven…
