DuneCraft plant kit giveaway!

tea-house-illustrationSo tea has been in the news a lot recently, but once you get past the parties and the politics, you’re left with one of the most popular, drinkable drinks on the planet: good old tea. To celebrate Earth Day this week, we’re going to celebrate plant life all week (although I think Sir Buffalo Sushi’s planning a little side trip on Friday into animal life).

And to kick it all off: Another giveaway! This one’s from the super-cool people over at one of my favorite places, DuneCraft. If you like plants, these guys have you covered. We first stumbled across this company a couple years ago, when we discovered that Sir did not inherit my purple thumb — the kid’s a budding horticulturist. He started with one plant kit (he was all into carnivorous plants back then) and now his room’s a jungle. Ferns, spider plants, aloe, you name it, kid’s grown it.

DuneCraft is offering Polka Dot Suitcase carriers everywhere one of their new kits: the Tea House. You can plant herbs (included) to harvest and create your own teas. YUM. Pretty, yet practical. Gotta love that.

Want it? You know the drill — open to U.S. residents (shipping reasons) until this Friday at 5:00 EST. Leave a comment here, in this post. You can just leave any old comment, sure, but it really warms the cockles of my heart when you say something interesting, too. Like how about telling me your fave tea? Or fave plant? Something sweet and wonderful about our planet and how lucky we are to live here?

And really — come back this week. I’ve got some really fun guest bloggers lined up to celebrate Earth Day. Think green!

I want today and tomorrow’s youth to be able to visit our national parks and world wonders like we did as children and as adults. I want them to be able to see how vegetables are grown on big farms, how dairy cows are milked, where pork comes from, and how eggs are laid. They need to be able to see where the food on their plate comes from and that it doesn’t all come from machinery and computers. Hopefully, we will still have a beautiful world where such wonders will still exist for them to enjoy and learn from. Thank you for the contest!

  7. Shirley Hodge says:

Wish this had been around when my kids were young. My Dad was a great veggie and flower gardner, besides half our backyard being a garden we had a big plot at the community gardens and I was his chief cook and bottlewasher so to speak. I learned to garden well and to love it. I still do, there is nothing like the feel of that first soil through your fingers in the spring but unfortunately my kids were city dwellers and I never could interest them in gardening but will surely give these a good look because now I am a grandma 4 times over.

    Ooh – enter me, please!
I love tea. I am currently very into Chai teas. I flip-flopped between Cocoanut Chai, Fireside Chai, and Chocolate Chai this winter.
My favorite place to buy my teas is Cost Plus World Market – which I am very happy to say opened a huge store right around the corner from where I work! Yippee!
One of my favorite tea brands is the Republic of Tea. Interestingly, they are located in Novato, CA (where I grew up), but there’s nowhere in Novato (at this time) to purchase their teas.

Now – put in your Shrek DVD, and listen to Donkey … “pick me … pick me … pick me!” :-)

  30. Sarah says:

My cats would love this – I could grow them fresh catnip!

  31. Theresa Shafer says:

Teas from fresh leaves means more flavor and fresher oils. Mint tea is very soothing and requires less leaves but I am sure the benefit is increased. Just pick a few leaves, crush the leaves, and add hot water. You can even eat the leaves after drinking the tea or with the tea.

Fresh Basil is good with fresh vine-ripened tomatoes.

There are many Basil flavors like the purple, sweet, holy, and a peppery Basil. Each has a different flavor and use with different foods.

  32. Vicki Andrew says:

I love tea and I’ve never seen this before. this is really a great idea
