Got an owie

So I had (ow) big plans (ow) to fill the (ow) polka dot suitcase (ow) with (ow) fun (ow, ow) stuff (ow) this (ow) week. BUT (ow) over the (ow) weekend (ow) one of my fingers got infected by something jammed under the fingernail. Can you tell which finger, based on which letters hurt to type (above)? Come on, who can figure it out? If I used the injured digit to write a word, it was followed by an (ow). It hurts like CRAZY. And this morning, for about two hours, I was almost doing face plants into the wall every time I stood up — thank goodness that’s gone. Anyhoo, waiting to see the doc today…so my finger guessing game is the most fun I can come up with. Hopefully they … Read entire article »

Winner of the DuneCraft plant kit is…

…going to be announced in a second. First, I get to do the closest thing I’ll ever have to an acceptance speech. I want to thank my parents, my agent…<smack>…oops, caught in a daydream there. Here’s my real speech: I want to thank everyone who played to win the Tea House. This thing is so cool, I want to keep it for myself. Can I say the winner is me? No? Bummer. I truly wish I could send you all one. Maybe Sir Buffalo Sushi will grow enough runners off his spider plant and we can ship one of those to everyone. Short of that, if you get a chance to check out DuneCraft, definitely click on over. They’ve even got a plant that will come back to life if you … Read entire article »

Well, Sir Buffalo Sushi is back once more! And guess what you will know after reading this post… THAT SEA-MONKEYS DIDN’T DIE OUT IN THE 70′s! So you guys, the people, answer me… Does anyone but me have sea-monkeys? I mean, you had to when you were … Read entire article »

Kiss Your Watering Can Goodbye

Kiss Your Watering Can Goodbye

To continue our Earth Day/Week “cross-pollination” celebration, here’s guest blogger Jodi Torpey, from over at Western Gardeners. Yesterday, we tackled water gardens. Today, Jodi’s got the scoop on how to make a water-free garden. Thanks, Jodi! I grew up in part of Colorado that’s known for its prairie plants like cacti and yucca. But when it came time to plant my own drought-hardy garden, I ignored my prickly friends and chose an assortment of other kinds … Read entire article »

She’s got the scoop on how to make a container water garden to go with that cool container tea garden you’re going to win. Thanks, Cristina! Is there a better way to celebrate Earth Day than outside, in the garden? Flowers are wonderful. Herbs and vegetables are delicious. But, water gardens and pond plants — and the frogs and dragonflies … Read entire article »

“Jucy Lucy” or “Juicy Lucy”, you decide

It’s Friday, and that means I, Sir Buffalo Sushi, am going to do another post. So, the other day, Big Fish, Mr. Steel, and I were watching the Food Network. And this food show was yapping about food when it suddenly caught our attention. They were introducing the Juicy Lucy! GASP! Actually, you probably don’t know what it is. Well, it’s this inside-out hamburger. You make it by; #1. get 2 hamburger patties. #2. Lay one of the patties flat and pile 3 slices of cheddar cheese on top. #3. Put the second pattie on top of that, creating a sandwich. #4. With your fingers, seal the two patties together, so it’s a pocket of cheese in the middle, but its sides are sealed, so no cheese can get out. #5. … Read entire article »

Need a little “yum” with your candy?

Head on over to the best candy site on the Internet (I’ve got no bias, truly, I haven’t): Candy Yum Yum. Oh, and totally coincidentally, I share my own Polka Dotted thoughts on candy in today’s post!  ‘Course, my answers kinda make me look a little hyped up on sugar, but is that such a bad thing? … Read entire article »

Did I hear that right?

This morning, I was looking through a list of vocabulary for sixth graders. I was bouncing a couple off Sir, to see if he knew them. And then came the word, “haughty.” The definition of which Sir says is “a good-looking woman.” No, that would be hottie, and I blame Big Fish for even letting that word enter Sir’s head. Then in the car, someone didn’t close their door properly and the “Door Ajar” light came on. I said–as a trained monkey might, could a trained monkey speak–”Door ajar.” And Mister said, “Dora Jarr? Who’s that and why are you saying her name?” Sigh. … Read entire article »

Jack Palmer! Congratulations, Jack! And thanks again to everyone who took the time to enter. Again, I truly wish that we had enough to give everyone — I had such a fantastic time reading everyone’s responses. Jack, I’ll send you an email to get your address. Thanks again, all!  Come back on April 20th to enter to win an amazing plant kit.
